Bucksport boys basketball hold off rally to defeat Dexter

DEXTER– The Dexter TIgers outscored the Bucksport Bucks 23-8 in the first and fourth quarters on Monday evening. The middle quarters didn’t go so well for the Tigers. Bucksport went on two runs of 8-0 and outscored the Tigers 32-12 in the middle two quarters in their 40-35 class C boys basketball victory at Ed Guiski gymnasium.

The Tigers held a 5-2 lead after the first quarter Dexter had four turnovers early in the second quarter, after only committing one in the first quarter.  Tyler Pye had five second quarter points as the Bucks held a 14-8 halftime lead.

Austin Mason scored nine of his game high 12 points in the third quarter to spark an 18 point quarter for the Bucks. It looked like the Bucks may have put the game away when Tyson Gray gave Bucksport a 34-17 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers rallied to cut the deficit to 38-35 when CJ Cooper made a layup with 31 seconds remaining. The Tigers had the ball, down by three, but a steal and a Kyle Jackson layup secured the win for the Bucks.

Mason finished with 12 points and five assists, Jackson added eight points, six rebounds, and four assists. Pye recorded seven points and 10 rebounds, while Riley McLeod scored four points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Hayden Craig also scored four points, while Dylan Henderson added three, and Gray scored two. Bucksport (7-2) will host John Bapst this Wednesday.

Brayden Miller, Zach White, William Strauch, and Cooper each scored six points for the Tigers. Jason Campbell and Joshua Simcock scored four points each, while Chandler Perkins put in a three pointer. Miller and White pulled down eight rebounds each. Dexter (5-3) will host Bangor Christian on Wednesday.

Bucksport out-rebounded Dexter 31-30. The Bucks shot 4-9 from the free throw line, while Dexter shot 3-13.
