Machias boys roll to quarterfinal win over Shead

BANGOR– James Mersereau put down a monstrous dunk for the first points of the game. That was just the start of the fun for the Bulldogs in their  68-26  victory over Shead in a Maine Principals’ Association class D quarterfinal game played on Monday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.

Machias built the lead to 23-6 at the end of the first quarter thanks to 12 points from Jordan Grant in the first eight minutes. Jacob Godfrey scored 10 second quarter points as the Bulldogs held a 39-8 halftime lead.

Grant led the way for the Bulldogs, who had 10 different players who scored. Grant scored 23 points (including 4 three pointers), he also had three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Godfrey recorded 17 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.

Mersereau filled up the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Mark Anthony added five points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, Machias (17-2) will take on Southern Aroostook in a semifinal game Thursday night.

Matt Harris and Riley Demulet scored six points each to lead the Tigers. Machias out-rebounded Shead 37-18.  The Tigers end the regular season with a 12-8 record.
