Strong second half effort propels Easton boys into the semifinals

BANGOR- The Easton boys basketball team used a 35 point second half that allowed them to pull away for a 60-41 Maine Principals’ Association Class D North quarterfinal victory over Wisdom Monday night at the Cross Insurance Center.

The eighth seeded team from Wisdom didn’t seem at all intimidated by top seeded Easton. Wisdom got nine first quarter points from Kodey Cyr and led 18-12 after the opening eight minutes of play. Easton big man Jacob Flewelling got going in the second quarter with six big points and Easton outscored Wisdom 14-5 in the second period to take a 26-23 halftime lead.

Easton put it away in the third quarter as Flewelling had 10 more and Easton had a 20-4 scoring edge including a 14-0 run to take a 46-27 lead into the final period.

Easton led by as many as 29 in the final period and was in cruise control as they advance to the semifinals to be played Thursday.

For Wisdom, who finishes their season at 9-11, they were led by Cyr who finished with 13 points while Adam Pelletier chipped in with 12.

For Easton, now 17-2, Flewelling finished with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Jacob Halvorson had 14 points, including four three pointers while Drew Sotomayor also contributed 10 points. Easton will now play Washburn in Thursdays semifinal at 8:35 p.m.
