Jackson Coutts earns third Down East Limousine male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 182 past athlete of the week winners.

This week we had four Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. A total of three of those nominations came from Orono high school. Jackson Coutts reached base in all 13 plate appearances to earn his third athlete of the week. Jake Koffman was the only nomination from track and field and earned runner up.

Down East Limousine male athlete of the week

Jackson Coutts- Orono- baseball- went 3-3 with a walk, including a two run homer, and three runs scored in 7-1 win over Dexter. Hit a double and drew three walks in 7-1 win over Bucksport. Reached base five times in 21-1 win over Lee. Coutts reached base in all 13 plate appearances this week. Finishing the week with one homer, three triples, one double, three singles, and five walks.

Runner up

Jake Koffman- Orono – Track and Field–threw Maine and New England leading discus throw of 176 feet 10 inches in the track meet at Hampden on May 6. This is the third best throw in the state of Maine since 2000 and only 3 1/2 feet off the state record.

Other nominations

Dennis Farnham- Orono- baseball- pitched a complete game two hitter with nine strikeouts and allowing one unearned run, plus hit a double and had one RBI in 7-1 win over Dexter.

Troy Reynolds- Searsport- baseball- pitched a two hitter, while striking out 12 and also hit a home run in 5-4 win over PVHS.
