The Mattanawcook Lynx baseball team started the week with a 4-3 record. The Lynx defeated Central 10-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Lincoln, to record their third straight win and move up to third in the Maine Principals’ Association class C heal point standings.

The Lynx started quickly when they scored two runs during the bottom of the first inning. Scott Jipson and Max Woodman each had a RBI. Mattanacook sent nine hitters to the plate and scored four runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. Carter Ward, Brayden Pepin, and Gunner Maxwell each reached base to get things started for the Lynx.

The Red Devils left four on base in the first three innings, but couldn’t get any runs on the scoreboard against Lynx pitcher Corbett Arnold. Central did cut the lead in half when they scored three runs during the top of the fourth inning. Grant Poulin, Micah Ward, and Gage Poulin each scored a run.

The Lynx lead would not get lower than three the rest of the way. Pepin walked and came around to score in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mattanawcook scored one insurance run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning.

Arnold earned the victory, allowing six hits in six innings. Travis Cropley pitched the seventh inning to close the game. Ward, Pepin, and Jipson had two hits each for the Lynx. Mattanawcook (7-3) will next play on Monday, May 16th when they play at Schenck. They finish this week with a win over previously undefeated George Stevens on Monday, a win over Calais on Tuesday, and a win over a Central team that defeated the Lynx 10-0 earlier this season.

Caleb Shaw and Gage Poulin each pitched three innings for the Red Devils. Andrew Speed and Dakota Miller had two hits each. Central (4-5) will look to snap a four game losing streak on Friday afternoon when they travel to Dexter. That game can be heard live at Eastern Maine Sports starting at 4:25 by clicking here.
