Erin Speed earns second Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 197 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had five Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Erin Speed from Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) earned her second Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week. She also was named athlete of the week on September 5th, 2015. Speed is joined by Lindsey Morrill (10-20-11), Abby Burdin (4-29-12),
Delani Bennett (2) (1-5-15),Bryce Gilbert (1-30-16),and Jordynne LIttlefield (6-13-16), and her sister Alex Speed (4) (10-25-14) as student/athletes from PCHS that have earned athlete of the week honors.

Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

Erin Speed-PCHS – soccer- recorded a hat trick in 3-1 win over Dexter. Scored the game winning goal on a penalty kick in 4-3 win over Searsport. Scored two goals against in 2-2 tie against previousley unbeaten Penquis.

Runner up

Kylie Nelson– Belfast- field hockey- scored four goals and recorded two assists in 11-0 win over Lincoln Academy.

Other nominations

Grace Belanger- Dexter- field hockey- scored four goals in 6-2 win over Orono. Had one assist in 4-0 win over PCHS.

Tina Hjelle- Bucksport- soccer- scored four goals in 5-0 win over Mattanawcook.

Angela Guy- Stearns- field hockey- finished with 32 saves, including her 500th career save in loss to Foxcroft Academy. This is her third year in goal for Stearns.
