Highview Christian Academy 2016-17 girls basketball preview

November 30, 2016

Highview Christian Academy is located in Charleston and the Knights play in Class D South.

Info provided by 8th year Head Coach/Athletic Director Michael Rowe

2015-16: 12-7 record, lost in Class D South Quarterfinal to Temple Academy

Expectations: Our expectations this season is to follow up our first ever tournament appearance by returning and trying to take at least one more step and making the semifinals.

Strengths: Our speed and outside shooting. Even though our tallest girl is 5-7, we should be strong in the post as well.

Challenges: Our challenge this year is to replace Kelsea McDonald, who averaged a double double last season. Each returning player is going to need to step up their play, including PCHS transfer Brooke Trafton. Because of our lack of height, rebounding will be a challenge so boxing out will be a key.

Bench: Young and inexperienced. Freshmen Javona Philbrick and Katelyn Shaw will be asked to play major minutes.

Returning players: Junior center Cassidy Lessner will be the key in the post. She led the team in scoring last year and is ready to take the next step. Senior guard Kelsi Upham, junior guard Cassidy Burns, and newcomer (transfer) junior guard Trafton are gonna be the keys to our outside game. Junior forward Megan McDonald is one of the best defensive players around, and will be asked to step up offensively as well.
