Waterville girls basketball rolls to preseason win over Dexter

DEXTER— The Waterville Purple Panthers girls basketball team jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter lead and never looked back in a 38-22 preseason victory over Dexter at the Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union tip off classic on Saturday morning.

Waterville held a 28-10 halftime lead behind Jordan Jabar. Jabar finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals, and three assists, including 20 points in the first half.

Mackenzie St. Pierre added five points and 10 rebounds for the Purple Panthers. Kaylynn Trussell and Madeline Martin scored three points each, while Hannah LeClair put in two.

Megan Peach led the Tigers with seven points and eight rebounds. Abby Webber and Rebecca Barton point in six points each, while Kaylee Deering added three points.

Waterville outrebounded Dexter 34-21. Waterville shot 7-15 from the free throw line, while the Tigers shot 8-25. The Purple Panthers will play John Bapst later this afternoon. Dexter will play Madison this evening.

The Dexter boys basketball team defeated Waterville 43-33 earlier this morning.
