Nokomis basketball teams start season strong

The Nokomis Warriors boys basketball team has got off to a solid start this season, after finishing 6-12 during the 2015/2016 season. The Warriors defeated Lawrence 59-55 on Tuesday evening in Newport behind a 22 point effort from Zach Hartsgrove.

Nokomis opened the season with a 49-33 win over Mt. Blue on Friday night. Brad Allen poured in 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in that one. Cony, Hampden, Medomak Valley, and Oceanside join Nokomis as class A boys teams to start the season 2-0.

In Fairfield on Tuesday night, Chelsea Crockett scored 19 points as the Nokomis girls basketball team pulled away in overtime to earn a 56-46 win over Lawrence. Nokomis started the season with a 43-20 win over Mt. Blue in the season opener on Friday.  Messalonskee, Gardiner, Waterville, and Skowhegan join Nokomis as class A girls teams to start the season 2-0.

Nokomis will play MCI on Thursday and Waterville on Saturday. The boys team will be on the road for both games, while the girls will be hosting the Huskies and Purple Panthers.
