Hermon girls basketball cruise to 10th straight win

HERMON– Emi Higgins scored 10 of her game high 15 points in the first half to lead the Hermon Hawks girls basketball team to a 57-29 victory over Caribou on Monday afternoon.

The Hawks jumped out to an 11-5 lead after the first quarter. Higgins had four minutes and five rebounds in the first eight minutes of play.

Hermon outscored Caribou 17-8 in the second quarter to take a commanding 28-13 halftime advantage. The Hawks had six different players who scored in the first half and they out rebounded the Vikings 18-9 in the half.

Higgins and Madisyn Curtis scored five points each in the third quarter as the Hawks outscored Caribou 17-9. Hermon outscored the Vikings 12-7 in the final quarter.

Hermon out-rebounded Caribou 33-21. Gabrielle Marquis led the Vikings with 10 points and seven rebounds, Rachel Soucy put in six points, freshman Paige Espling scored five points and pulled down seven rebounds. Madison Doucette scored three points and had three assists. Taylor Skidgel and Katelyn Clark added two points each, while Alexis Rodriguez made one free throw. Caribou (3-9) is scheduled to play at Mattanawcook on Saturday.

The Hawks (10-1) have won 10 straight games since a season opening loss at Presque Isle. Hermon has had only one game decided by less than 10 points during their current streak.

The Hawks shot 7-19 from the free throw line, while Caribou shot 9-21. Caitlynn Tracy came off the bench to record 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists for the Hawks. Paige Plissey added six points, four assists, and three steals. Chloe Raymond and Lauren Plissey scored five points each, Maddie Pullen recorded three points, four steals, and two assists. Brooke Cowan and Grace Page put in two points each. Hermon will play at Houlton on Saturday afternoon.
