BANGOR- Morgan Dauk had a game high 31 points Wednesday, to lead the George Stevens Academy Eagles to a 49-40 Class C schoolgirl quarterfinal basketball win over Calais at the Cross Insurance Center.
GSA went on a 8-0 run late in first quarter and held their biggest lead at 19-9 early in the second. The Blue Devils fought closer though, and outscored GSA the remainder of the second 9-4 to cut the Eagles lead to 23-18 at halftime.
After an opening score by Calais to open the third, GSA went on a 7-0 spurt to increase the lead back to 10 at 30-20.
Calais came right back and ran off a 14-6 flurry of their own, led by eight points from Lauran Cook (including a pair of three pointers), making it 36-34 GSA after three quarters.
Tianna Bacon scored early in the fourth quarter for Calais to tie the game at 36-36. But Dauk was too tough scoring 11 points in the quarter, including a huge put back layup after a foul shot miss by Julianna Allen as the Eagles hung on and advanced to the semifinals.
Calais, who ends the season at 14-6, was led by Cook who had 13 points. Sydney Farrar and Olivia Huckins both had eight points. Calais was dominated on the glass throughout, leading to second and third chances by GSA. The Eagles outrebounded the Blue Devils 31-6.
Dauk added 13 rebounds and four steals along with her game high in points. Emma Crosby added seven points, as the Eagles improved to 17-2 on the season.
GSA will now face PCHS in the semifinals on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. PCHS advanced over Woodland in Wednesdays first quarterfinal.
