McDonald’s all stars, Miss and Mr Basketball semifinalists announced

February 22, 2017

BANGOR- At news conferences in Portland, Augusta, and Bangor today, the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) announced the AA/A/B North and South, and C/D North and South players for the 2017 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball games.

Morgan Dauk’s day started great when she recorded 31 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals in leading the George Stevens Eagles to a 49-40 victory over Calais in a Maine Principals’ Association class C quarterfinal game.

Her Wednesday continued to go well when she was named to the McDonald’s C/D Girls North all star team that will play at Husson University on March 11th at 2:30 PM.

Dauk will join Emily Lagerstrom (Presque Isle), Molly Folsom (Lawrence), and Delaney Haines (Deering) as foul regional champions. The boys foul shooting regional champions are Kuan Yeh (Lee), Bryce Gilbert (PCHS), Kyle Wilbur (Maranacook), and Nick Fiorello (Scarborough). All mentioned will be part of the State Foul Shooting championship on March 11th at 8:30 AM.

Dauk said, “whenever I practice, I make a point to practice my free throw shooting. It is important in close games.”

The good day didn’t stop there for Dauk. She was also named as one of the ten Miss Basketball Semi-Finalist. She joins Katie Butler (Bangor), Megan Peach (Dexter), Jordan Reynolds (Edward Little), Emily Esposito (Gorham), Emi Higgins (Hermon), Rylee Warman (Houlton), Sophie Holmes (Messalonskee), Emily Lagerstrom (Presque Isle), Emma Alley (Stearns).

“I just about jumped out of my chair, I was so happy for her. She hasn’t gotten down here, and a lot of people don’t know that she is pretty darn good.,”George Stevens coach Bill Case said. “She is the hardest worker, it is easy to be the leader when you are the hardest worker.”

Dauk added, “it means a lot to me. I worked really hard my entire life for this. I am super excited that all my hard work is paying off.”

Nate Desisto and the Orono Red Riots boys team will play a semifinal game against Hermon this afternoon, Desisto was named Mr. Maine Basketball semi-finalist. He joins Jack Casals (Cheverus), Colin Coyne (Falmouth), Michael McDevitt (Greely), Jordan Bagshaw (Greely), Mason Cooper (Lawrence), Cameron Allaire (Medomak Valley), Riley Swanson (MDI), Justin Thompson (Schenck), Jacob Hickey (Winthrop).

“He (Desisto) is a four year starter for us. If we take care of business today, he has a chance to be in three regional finals. Not many kids in the state can say that,”Orono coach Jason Coleman said. “He is the glue of what we have done for four years. He has turned the culture of our program around.”

Desisto added, it means a lot. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates for believing in me and letting me play and be who I am and play basketball.”

Justin Thompson and the Schenck Wolverines will play a class C North semifinal game on Friday afternoon against Fort Fairfield.

“it means a lot to me personally,”Thompson said. “sometimes players from the north or class C schools don’t get the recognition of the players that class A or double AA do.”
