Caribou 2017 tennis preview

Info from coach John Habeeb

Girls – last year, number one ranked team, undefeated in regular season, lost 3-2 to Camden Hills, final record 13-1
#1 – Gabrielle Marquis – Jr. – made it to the round of 16 in MPA singles, #12 ranked player in state,
Expectations – should be a favorite in Northern Maine B
Strengths – all players returning plus we picked up a new player from out of state
Challenges – getting outdoors, no indoor facilitites
Key Players – see above, Conner Spencer – Sr, Ashley Matlock – Jr. – Conner lost only one match last year and Ashley was undefeated, both doubles teams returning, PVC doubles champions and runners-up last year (Ciara Richards – Jr/Danielle Hanson- Jr at first dubs and Hailey Holmquist and Kyra Thibeault at second)
Challenging Teams – Camden Hills and Waterville and possibly MDI

Boys – last year we were Northern Maine B Runners- Up: pulled off big upset vs John Bapst in a semi, number 3 ranked team, final record 13-2
#1 – Alec Cyr – junior – qualified for MPA singles tournament, lost in first round, not a ranked player (maybe this year or next could garner a rank)
Expectations – lost our #1 and #4 player due to graduation – we will be a contender again as we have four or five returning players from last year, picked up a talented freshman (Parker Deprey)
Strengths – solid singles players (Bailey Griffeth – Jr and Emerson Duplissie-Cyr – Jr (and a very good first doubles team with Gabriel Rand – So and Parker Deprey – fr)
Challenges – again, we need to get outdoors, could be a long spring, gives a head start to our downstate competitors
Key Players – see strengths
Challenging Teams – John Bapst, Camden Hills, Waterville, and MDI
