Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 222 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had eight Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Emily Page had five hits, including three home runs and 16 RBI in leading the Mattanawcook softball to a win over Lee Academy.  Page joins Chase Vicaire, Trysten Pelkey, Courtney McIntyre, Tia Tardy, and Garrett  Sutherland as student/athletes from Mattanawcook Academy that have been named athlete of the week. Pelkey earned the honor twice, while McIntyre did three times. Page has helped the Lynx start the season with a 12-0 record.

Emily Page- Mattanawcook- softball- had five hits, including two grand slams, a three run homer, and 16 RBI in Lynx win over Lee Academy.

Runner up

Katelin Saunders- Bucksport- softball- pitched a five hitter with 15 strikeouts in 10-3 win over Central. Allowed three runs and had six strikeouts plus had two hits, including a double and RBI in 7-3 win over Orono. Pitched a three hitter with 10 strikeouts and also had three hits and two RBI in 12-0 win over Searsport in six innings.

Other nominations

Libby Hewes- Brewer- softball- had three hits, including two doubles and five RBI in 13-1 win over Hampden.

Kortney McKechnie- PVHS – softball- the catcher threw out five base runners in 5-0 win over Searsport. Had three hits, including two doubles and four RBI in 7-4 win over Schenck. Had a double and two RBI in 16-1 win over Penquis.

Lydia Day- Washington Academy- softball- pitched a two hitter and struck out nine in 1-0 win over Calais.

Mackenzie Beaudry- Foxcroft- softball- pitched a three hitter plus had two hits and scored two runs in 17-2 win over John Bapst.

Abigail Paige- Dexter- softball- had two doubles and a two run homer in 18-6 win over George Stevens.

McKenna Smith- Old Town – softball- pitched a two hitter with 13 strikeouts and went 2-3 at the plate in 5-2 win over Hermon. Smith also collided with another player in the bottom of the seventh inning hard enough where concussion protocol testing had to be done. She recovered and struck out the final batter to end the game.
