Leine McKechnie earns third Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 223 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Leine McKechnie went 3-0 in the circle this week for the Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers. McKechnie allowed only seven hits and struck 33 in three games. She also had a big week offensively, with six hits, six runs scored, and three RBI. The Howlers have a 14-0 record entering the final week of the season.

McKechnie has earned athlete of the week honors three times in the past four weeks.  The freshman joins Kayla Dube (4) (5-12-13), Arianna McKinnon (2) (5-31-14), Amy Hallett (2) (10-3-15), Ryley Buck (9-13-15), Jarrett Priest (4-30-16), Thomas Spencer (5-29-16)
as student/athletes from PVHS that have earned athlete of the week honors.

Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

Leine McKechnie- PVHS- softball- pitched a three-hitter and struck out 13 and had double, RBI, and run scored in 8-1 win over Stearns. Threw a two-hitter and struck out 10 and recorded single, RBI, and three runs scored in 17-1 win over Bangor Christian. Pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and had four hits, including double, RBI, and two runs scored in 13-1 win over Searsport.

Runner up

Kylie Vining- Southern Aroostook – softball- had four hits, including two doubles, and a triple in 25-4 win over Hodgdon. Fired a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and had two hits of her own in 7-1 win over Ashland.

Other nominations

Makaelym Porter- Southern Aroostook- softball- had three hits, including a triple, and home run in 25-4 win over Hodgdon.

Bre Oakes- Hermon- softball- pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts plus had a triple and two RBI in 14-0 win over John Bapst.

Kenzie Kain- PCMS- struck out 16, while walking only one in 19-3 win over Milo.

Jenna Clukey – Foxcroft- softball- had three hits in 10-2 win over Dexter.
