Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 225 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had 13 Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. McKenna Smith didn’t allow a run in leading the Old Town Coyotes softball team to the regional final for the second straight year. The Coyotes won the state championship last season. Smith is the 11th student/athlete from Old Town high school to earn athlete of the week honors. She joins Garrett Libby, Ethan Swedberg, Kendra Hayward, Rachel Martin, Eric Hoogterp, TJ Crawford, Jake Jarvis, Kaleb Gifford, Olivia Albert, and Kassidy Harriman. Crawford and Gifford each won twice.

Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

McKenna Smith- Old Town – softball-  threw her second no-hitter of the season with 14 strikeouts and only walked one in five inning win over MDI. No MDI player reached second base and Smith also had two hits, including a double and two RBI. Pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in 2-0 class B quarterfinal win over Winslow. Pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts plus had two hits in 7-0 class B semifinal win over Hermon.

Runner up

Leine McKechnie – PVHS- softball- pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in 11-0 class D quarterfinal win over East Grand. Fired a one-hitter, walking one and striking out 15 strikeouts in 9-1 class D semifinal win over Schenck.

Other nominations

Erin Speed- PCHS- softball- had two triples and two RBI in 9-3 class C prelim win over Calais.

Jewel Lamb- PCHS – softballs struck out 12 in 9-3 class C prelim win over Calais.

Mackenzie Beaudry – Foxcroft- softball- struck out 18 in 2-1 class B prelim win over MDI.

Kortney McKechnie- PVHS- softball- had three doubles and three RBI in 11-0 class D quarterfinal win over East Grand.

Bre Oakes- Hermon- softball- had two hits and scored two runs, while also striking out seven to earn win in the circle in 10-4 class B quarterfinal win over Foxcroft.

Grace Bickford- Foxcroft- softball- recorded three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI in 10-4 class B quarterfinal loss to Hermon.

Haley McLaughlin- Mattanawcook- softball- pitched a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts in 8-2 quarterfinal win over Washington Academy.  Pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in 1-0 class C semifinal win over Narraguagus.

Olivia Gallant- Schenck- softball- had five hits in leading the 11 seed Wolverines  to a 20-5 class D quarterfinal win over Hodgdon.

Katelin Saunders- Bucksport- softball- pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts in 9-2 class C quarterfinal win over PCHS.

Audrey Dunstan- Stearns- hit a grand slam and a three run homer in 15-3 class D quarterfinal win over Madawaska.

Lanie Perry- Narraguagus- softball- pitched a no hitter with 12 strikeouts allowing one unearned run in 1-0 loss to Mattanawcook in class C semifinal game.
