Dexter boys soccer gives Orono first loss of season

October 11, 2017

The Dexter Tigers got a goal from Nate Richards with 20 minutes left in regulation and held on to defeat Orono 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Dexter. It is the first loss of the season for the Red Riots.

The teams played an even first half and the game remained scoreless. That is until Matt Richards sent a beautiful pass to his brother. Nate Richards took care of the rest as the Red Riots goalie was trying to come out and block.

Dexter goalie, Brett Kusneirz. had eight saves on 14 shots. The defense in front of Kusneirz came up big against one of the highest powered offenses in class C.  It is the second shutout of the season for the Tigers. Orono came in averaging over four goals per game.

“This was an incredible team effort and the best I have seen our defense ever play. We are starting to fire on all cylinders. We are getting ready to hopefully make a playoff run and the only way to do that is to end the season well,”Dexter coach Andrew Bermudez said. “This was as good of a start to the end of the season that one could ask for. With just two games left we need keep this level of effort up and just build on it.”
Dexter (6-4-2) will finish up their regular season at Searsport on Friday and at PCHS next Tuesday. The game at PCHS in Guilford can be heard live at Eastern Maine Sports starting at 3:55 on October 17th

Nathan Reid has two saves on 11 shots for the Red Riots.  Orono (8-1-3) will host George Stevens on Friday and host Central next Tuesday.
