Bangor Christian wins another class D boys soccer state title

HAMPDEN– The Bangor Christian Patriots Boys Soccer team defeated Richmond 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Maine Principals’ Association class D state championship game on Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots have won two straight and seven of the last nine state titles in class D. Richmond defeated Bangor Christian in the 2014 state game.

The Patriots scored the lone goal when Tyler Lehman scored off an assist from Erik Gorczok with 28:02 left in his first half.

The Patriots outshot Richmond 11-3 in the first half. Trystin Shaw kept the Bobcats within striking distance by making seven saves in the half.

Richmond outshot Bangor Christian 13-5 in the second half. Austin Keib made five saves for the Patriots in the final 40 minutes.

Richmond had opportunities in the final minutes, including Nathan Kendrick missing the left goal post by inches. They had their last chance when the ball hit off the head of Matt Rines and went over the goal with 27 seconds remaining.

Keib made six saves on 16 shots for the Patriots.  Bangor Christian (16-2) finished the season with 11 straight wins. Shea had 11 saves on 16 shots for the Bobcats. Richmond finished the season with a 16-2 record.
