MCI shows they have the heart of a champion in any class

November 11, 2017

The Maine Central Institute (MCI) Huskies won the 2016 class D football state championship in dramatic fashion.

The Huskies moved up to class C for the 2017 season. MCI lost key players from their state championship team, including Josh Buker and Eli Bussell.

MCI fell to 2-3 on the season after back to back losses to Cape Elizabeth (September 22nd) and MDI (September 29th). They have gone 5-1 since then with the only loss being a 32-29 decision to Winslow in their regular season finale.

The Huskies were able to get the Black Raiders back when they went to Winslow and earned a hard fought 43-42 win in a semifinal game on November 4th. After defeating the second seeded Black Raiders, MCI had to travel to Bar Harbor for a regional championship game against top seed MDI. The Trojans, the same team that traveled to Pittsfield and rolled to a 35-24 win in week five.

MCI not only won a regional championship on Saturday night. They did it in dominating fashion. They are bringing a 27-6 win and a trophy with them to Pittsfield.  The Huskies will have their hands full when they meet Cape Elizabeth in the class C state championship game at the University of Maine on Friday, November 17th. They are the same Capers that rolled to a 35-15 win over MCI on September 22nd. These Huskies have taught everyone a few things during this run. What happened during the regular season doesn’t matter to them, and they have shown us all that they have the heart of a champion.
