MCI holds halftime lead in class C state game

Adam Bertrand rushed for 142 yards on 14 carries, including two touchdowns as the Maine Central Institute Huskies hold a 21-13 halftime lead over Cape Elizabeth in the Maine Principals’ Association

Bertrand exploded for a 52 yard touchdown run on the first possession of the game. The Capers responded with a 10 play/63 yard drive that ended on a 16 yard touchdown play from Andrew Hartel to Jacob Brydson.

The Huskies scored late in each quarter of the first half. Bertrand ran one in from one yard out with 12 seconds remaining in the first.

Cape took advantage of a second MCI turnover when they scored on a Hartel to Matt Conley pass to cap an 11 play drive. The two point try failed and the Huskies held a 14-13 lead.

The Huskies finished with the first half with an 11 play drive that ended with some trickery. They lined up with a four on four set, with the rest of the team lined up to the left. MCI freshman quarterback Ryan Friend took advantage and connected with Andrew Whitaker for a three yard touchdowns. The big play of the drive came on a 36 yard pass from Friend to Pedro Matos.
