Lexi Ireland is Eastern Maine Sports 2017 girls soccer player of the year

November 26, 2017

Lexi Ireland has recorded 47 goals and 11 assists in 33 games (28-5) in her high school soccer career. The Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) sophomore scored 27 goals and had six assists this season. On Sunday, Ireland was named Eastern Maine Sports girls soccer player of the year.

“Lexi is an extremely balanced player, able to attack with the right or left equally. She is also very good in the air, which with her height, makes her difficult to defend on set pieces. The most dominant part of her game is the competitiveness that she brings, and her willingness to outwork and overpower her opponents,”PVHS coach Ryan Reed said. “I have challenged her to see just how good she can be as a soccer player, and I am looking forward to seeing the results.”

Ireland received 80% of the 1858 votes that came in. Kolleen Bouchard finished as runner-up. The full results are below. Ireland will be in the voting for November athlete of the month starting December 2nd. Addi Williams (MCI) was named field hockey player of the year. Logan Thompson (Mattanawcook) was named golfer of the year. Bryce Gilbert (PCHS) was named boys Soccer of the year.
