PCHS 2017/2018 girls basketball preview

November 26, 2017

The Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) girls basketball team will have plenty of experience returning as they look to make a return trip to the Cross Insurance Center. They reached the semifinal round last season.

“Our experience will certainly be a benefit for us this year. We are fortunate to have six of last years top seven players returning,”PCHS coach Brian Gaw said. “We have decent overall quickness and height to compliment our experience.”

Seniors Erin Speed (PVC 1st team) , Lexi Rowell (PVC All Defensive), and Bailey Lemieux will provide solid leadership, along with Alivia Hunt (PVC Honorable mention). Jr. Hope Adkins, So. Olivia Riitano and Frosh. Meagan Lemieux are all in the mix for the 5th starting position. Jr. Brooke Kukawski and Jr. Rachel Beckwith will add depth off the bench.

The Pirates will have eight games on the schedule against four teams they haven’t seen in recent years. They will also have to try to replace the production of Sara Almirante.

“A couple challenges we sill face is a revamped schedule with four teams (Bangor Christian, Mattanawcook, Searsport and Valley Bingham) we have not played in the regular season in a number of years,” Gaw said. “The second is the loss of exchange student and 1st Team All PVC Sara Almirante.”

The Pirates open the season on the road against Schenck and Bangor Christian. The home opener will be against Greenville on December 14th, that can be heard live at Eastern Maine Sports starting at 4:50 PM.
