Mattanawcook Academy 2017/2018 girls basketball preview

November 28, 2017

2017-18 Mattanawcook Academy Lady Lynx

School:  Mattanawcook Academy Girls Basketball

2016-17 Record:  3-15

Coach: Stephanie Dubay

Strengths:  Returning four starters from 2017.   Our core group has played a lot of basketball together.  Knowing how to execute and being comfortable on the floor with each other will be helpful.  We have a very competitive schedule which should help us down the stretch and into February.

Challenges:  Playing a very competitive schedule, we will have to be very sharp every night.  Being back in Class C we will be facing a different schedule.  Adjusting to teams we have not seen and gyms we have not played in will be difficult.

Key player/newcomers:  Any of our starting five could be the leading scorer on any given night.  Sr. Guard Kimberlee Voisine, Jr. Guard Emily Tolman, Jr. Forward Katie Tolman, Sr. Forward Natalie Tilton, Sr. Forward/Center Tressa Libby (missed last season with ACL injury)  will most likely be the starting 5.  Jr. Guard Katey Libby, Sr. Guard Audrey Tash, Senior Forward/Center Gabbie Hamm.

Newcomers:  Soph. Guard Ellie Gordon, Freshman Guard Lexi Thompson, and Freshman Forward/Center Adria McLaughlin

Favorites:  Class C is full of talented teams.  Houlton would have to be considered the favorite as the 3-time Class B defending champions.   After that I would have to say there are 10-12 teams that will fight it out for play-off spots.  Getting to the post season will have to be earned for sure, there are a lot of teams evenly matched.

Schedule: The Lynx will start the season with three road games, before playing their home opener against Calais on December 20th.
