Maine loses late lead on road, falls in OT

The University of Maine womens basketball team held a 15 point first half lead, a nine point halftime lead, and led by 10 with less than five minutes remaining Thursday night, but would lose the lead and would fall in overtime 65-64 to Toledo in non conference action in Ohio.

Julie Brosseau scored a career high 26 points and hauled down six rebounds for 4-3 Maine. Blanca Millan added 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Tanesha Sutton also chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Mikaela Boyd led 5-1 Toledo with 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and six steals. Maine shot just 12-20 from the foul line, and 33 percent from the floor in the game.

Toledo tied the game on a driving layup with six seconds left in regulation by Boyd, and didnt take their first lead until of the night until a minute into the extra session. The Bears had a chance with 12 seconds left to take back a lead, but a steal by Toledo and a foul put the Rockets at the foul line with three seconds left. Maine however had a chance on two missed free throws by Toledo, but Parise Rossignol desperation heave from just inside half court was off the mark.

Maine returns to action in the state of Ohio on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they face Ohio State.
