Central girls basketball win big in season opener

CORINTH– Sydney Allen recorded 24 points, eight assists, five steals, and three rebounds to lead the Central Red Devils to a 74-26 win over Sumner on Friday night.

Allen drilled a three pointer to give the Red Devils a 3-0 lead. Central never looked back as they outscored the Tigers 29-8 in the first quarter. Sydney’s younger sister Abi Allen put in 11 first quarter points, including 2 three pointers. She finished with 19 points (all in the first half), five rebounds, and two assists.

Central outscored Sumner 22-6 in the second quarter to take a 51-14 halftime lead. The Allen sisters combined for 35 first half points. The Red Devils shot 14-20 from the free throw line, including 11-13 in the first half.

Emilee Cohen had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Devils. Madi Speed recorded six points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Sidney Potvin added five points, three rebounds, and three steals. Rachel Smith chipped in with four points, five rebounds, and three steals. Ali Shaw chipped in with two points. Emily Smith pulled down eight rebounds. Central (1-0) will play at George Stevens on Monday.

Emma Bunch scored 13 points to lead the Tigers. Skylar Soule added eight points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Saylor DeJardin added two points, while Samantha Bierman scored one point and pulled down eight rebounds. Sumner (0-1) will host Bucksport on Monday.
