Maine storms back to take down Quinnipiac

December 8, 2017

The University of Maine mens ice hockey team faced an early first period 3-0 deficit Friday night, but would come all the way back and score four goals in the third period to collect a 7-4 non-conference hockey win over Quinnipiac at Hamden, Connecticut.

After a first period goal by Mitch Fossier made it 3-1, a pair of powerplay goals by Tim Doherty and Patrick Holway would tie the score in the second at 3-3.

After Karlis Cuxte regained the lead for the Bobcats 4-3 at 2:50 of the third, it was all Black Bears. A four goal outburst in a span of 6:13 on markers by Eduards Tralmaks, Cedric Lacroix, Tralmaks again, and then Brendan Robbins finished off the scoring as the Bears evened up their overall record at 7-7-1.

Maine was 2-2 on the powerplay, while Quinnipiac was 0-5. Jeremy Swayman turned away 50 shots in the Black Bear net. Andrew Shortridge made 23 in the Quinnipiac net in the loss. QU drops to 6-9-2.

The two teams finish off the two game series Saturday night at 7 p.m.
