December 10, 2017

GUILFORD- Bryce Gilbert recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals, and seven assists to lead Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) to a 64-39 win over Schenck on Saturday afternoon.

Cameron Kane drilled a three pointer to give the Pirates a 3-2 advantage. They would hold that lead the rest of the way. Kane scored eight of his 20 points in the first quarter.

Gilbert said, “he (Kane) shot the lights out in the first half.”

PCHS coach Alden Gregory added, “Cam (Kane) played big, I am really happy about how he played.”

Gilbert picked up his second foul with 3:47 left in the second quarter. Gregory sat him down for the rest of the half. The Pirates were able to extend the lead from eight to 11 with their leader on the bench.

“I was a little worried about it. They pressured us a little bit. We were able to handle the press. We were able to take care of it and get the ball up,”Gregory said. “If it has to be all Bryce (Gilbert), we are going to get into trouble. They all stepped up. Hopefully more guys will step up as the year goes on.”

After holding a 24-13 halftime lead, the Pirates put the game away with a 31 point third quarter. Gilbert had 15 points in the quarter, Eben Cooley had all eight of his points in the third quarter.

Caleb Willis came off the bench and scored six points and grabbed five rebounds for the Pirates. Wayne Haley chipped in with six points. Kane made 4 three pointers and recorded six rebounds and two assists. PCHS (1-0) will play Bangor Christian at Eastern Maine Community College on Tuesday night at 6:30 PM. Eastern Maine Sports will have live audio coverage of the Pirates games against Greenville on December 14th and Dexter on December 21st.
