Stanton goes to Yankees; Whats Next for the Red Sox?

December 10, 2017

The New York Yankees sent shockwaves throughout the MLB Saturday morning making a major blockbuster trade for Marlins superstar Giancarlo Stanton.

The Yankees will send second baseman Starlin Castro, and two low end prospects, while also eating up around 273 million of his almost 295 million dollars that is left on his massive contract.

This gives the Yankees new skipper Aaron Boone legitimate firepower in a lineup that already has a ton of power in rookie star Aaron Judge and power hitting catcher Gary Sanchez. The acquisition of Stanton makes the Yankees a legitimate threat in not only the AL East but in the American League overall, only thing they lack now is a Pitcher and possibly a Third Baseman.

As for the Red Sox after being in on Stanton for quite awhile they turned away after Stanton did not place them on his list of desired teams, and the price was to hefty given all their top prospects have already found new homes . So with the trade of Stanton and the Angels landing Japanese star Shohei Ohtani teams can finally now focus to Free Agents during the upcoming Winter Meetings that start Monday.

So Cashman now rolls the ball into Dave Dombrowski’s court, so what do they do? Will he panic, or will he stay calm and take it day by day, one thing is for sure, after the Stanton trade the Red Sox NEED a power bat, and will now look to free agency and will push very hard for the likes of big named players such as JD. Martinez or Eric Hosmer. Or going lower end and jumping at the chance of a possible power first baseman in Carlos Santana. But a year coming off of not going over the luxury tax, expect the Red Sox to spend big on a free agent combination of a power bat and first baseman or a power bat and possibly dangling Jackie Bradley Jr. for a first baseman or a pitcher. Only time will tell, and they don’t call him Dealer Dave for nothing ,but one thing is for sure the hot stove will be very hot come Monday when the Winter Meetings officially kick off.
