Lee Academy stuns George Stevens to highlight opening weekend

Lee Academy had four players in double figures in a 62-47 victory over two-time defending class C boys basketball state champion George Stevens on Saturday afternoon. The Pandas held George Stevens to only two points in the first quarter.It snapped a 44 game winning streak for the Eagles.

Washington Academy came back from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to earn a 63-62 class B boys basketball victory over Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon. Donald Soctomah made the game winning basket with five seconds left.

Bryce Gilbert recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals, and seven assists in leading the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates boys basketball team to a season opening win over Schenck. Gilbert earned his fifth athlete of the week honor.

The game of the weekend in girls basketball was a Medomak Valley overtime win over Gardiner. Gabby DePatsy recorded 30 points and 11 rebounds, including the shot that sent the game to overtime. It is the 10th straight double-double for DePatsy. She is the first student/athlete from Medomak Valley high school to be named athlete of the week.
