CORINTH– Sydney Allen scored 22 points, including 10-13 from the free throw line to lead the Central Red Devils to a 50-35 win over Dexter in a class C girls basketball game played Monday night at Central high school.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed. Central held an 8-2 lead after the first quarter. Allen came up big on the offensive side, but it was her defense that propelled her team to the key early season win.

Allen and sister Abi Allen switched off on Tigers freshman Peyton Grant.  Dexter’s leading scorer (Grant) did put in 20 points (7-7 FT), but was held to six field goals.

“We know Dexter is big on defense,”Sydney Allen said. “So we knew it was big for us to go out there and big on defense as well.”

The Tigers went on a 5-2 run to start the second quarter and cut the deficit to 10-7.  Central held a 21-11 lead with under one minute left in the first half. Sydney Allen went to the bench with her second foul and Dexter scored the final four points of the half to cut the deficit to 21-15 going into halftime.
