Maine plays tough, but falls at Duke

Lexie Brown poured in 26 points on 11-13 shooting Tuesday night, to lead the #14 Duke Blue Devils to a 69-39 win over Maine in a non-conference womens basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Maine (6-6), shot only 20 percent from the floor including 6-43 from the three point arc, while Duke shot 52 percent in the contest. Blanca Millan was the only double figure scorer for the Black Bears with 16 points. Fanny Wadling had a career high 13 rebounds.

Duke (9-2), turned it over 19 times to 12 for Maine. The Bears were able to stay within 19-22 points from the second quarter to late in the fourth, but couldn’t creep closer as they went through a 6:30 stretch in third quarter without a field goal. Haley Gorecki added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners.

Maine finishes up non league play when they travel to Boston College next Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
