Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 245 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had 12 Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Taylor Schildroth from George Stevens and Bryce Gilbert from PCHS will share Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week honors. Schildroth averaged 32 points in helping the Eagles fly to a pair of wins. Schildroth got 38 points and 8 three pointers in a 69-66 overtime win over Bucksport. Gilbert scored 35 points, including his 1000 career point in a Pirates loss to Dexter. Gilbert is the first student/athlete since 2000 to reach the 1000 point mark. It is the seventh athlete of the week honor for Schildroth and sixth for Gilbert.
Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week
Taylor Schildroth- George Stevens – basketball- scored 38 points, including 8 three pointers in 69-66 overtime win over Bucksport. Scored 26 points in 83-45 win over Sumner.
Bryce Gilbert- PCHS- basketball- recorded 35 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, and four steals, including his 1000 career point in 67-60 overtime loss to Dexter.
Runner up
Cooper Wirkala- Oceanside- basketball- scored 35 points, including 28 in the second half in 81-58 win over Camden Hills.
Other nominations
Justin Worden- Woodland- basketball- scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in 72-44 win over Hodgdon.
Zach Hartsgrove- Nokomis- basketball- scored 30 points in 74-52 win over Cony.
Josh Smestad- Nokomis- basketball- scored 28 points in 74-52 win over Cony.
Cameron Cleary- Houlton- basketball- recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds, and eight blocks in 43-25 win over Caribou.
Caleb Delisle- Fort Kent- basketball- scored 26 points in win over Washburn.
Jacob Bickford- Dexter- basketball – scored 20 points in 67-60 overtime win over PCHS.
Matt Hanscome- Dexter – basketball- scored 12 points and pulled 12 rebounds in 67-60 overtime win over PCHS.
Chris Plissey- Woodland- Basketball- scored 26 points, including six three pointers in 53-48 win over Calais.
Travis Thompson- Schenck- basketball – had 18 points and nine rebounds in 57-48 win over Schenck. Had 22 points, 15 rebounds, and the game winning shot in overtime in 58-55 win over PVHS.
