Maine men suffer late loss at Stony Brook

The University of Maine mens basketball team was down 20 points with just 12 minutes left Wednesday Night, but rallied to take a two point lead with 19 seconds left, only to fall on a late three point shot with four seconds remaining to give Stony Brook a 71-70 win at Federal Credit Union Arena in Stony Brook, New York in the America East conference opener.

Aaron Calixte led the way for Maine with 21 points, five rebounds, and eight assists. Isaiah White had 15 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Ilija Stojiljkovic added 10 points for the 3-13, 0-1 Black Bears.

Akwasi Yeboah led the 6-9, 1-0 Seawolves with 20 points and five rebounds. Tyrell Sturdivant and Junior Saintel added 10 points a piece. Sturdivant had five assists, while Saintel added eight rebounds. UC Iroegbu sank the deep three pointer that won the game. Iroegbu was only 2-9 from the floor before hitting the game winner.

Maine travels to Binghamton Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Bearcats.
