Highview Christian girls sneak past Forest Hills

BANGOR, Me- Cassidy Lessner scored 10 of her team high 15 points in the second half Thursday evening, to lead the Highview Christian Academy Knights to a 35-33 Class D South girls basketball win at the UMA Bangor Fitness Center.

Highview (2-6), led by as many as seven points in the first half. Forest Hills had it down to 17-13 at halftime.

The Knights extended the lead to six at the end of the third quarter 26-20. The Tigers went on a 13-5 run in the fourth quarter to take a brief 33-31 lead. Katelyn Shaw tied it 33-33 with a jumper just outside the foul line. Megan McDonald hit one of two from the line to make it 34-33 HCA with 46 seconds remaining. Forest Hills tried to regain the lead, but committed a turnover with 27 seconds left. Lessner was intentionally fouled with nine seconds left and made one of two from line. Highview was able to run out the clock before another FH foul to escape with the two point win.

Lessner had 10 rebounds to go along with her 15 points. McDonald added 12 points and five rebounds, and Shaw had eight points.

Demi Giroux led Forest Hills (3-8) with 17 points. Taylor Fountaine had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Highview returns to action Monday at 2 p.m. at Shead, while Forest Hills travels to Pine Tree Academy Tuesday at 4 p.m.
