Dexter girls basketball hold on to defeat Penquis in tale of two halves

DEXTER- In a tale of two halves, the Dexter Tigers girls basketball team was able to hold on for a 53-46 win over Penquis on Thursday night at Dexter high school.

The Tigers jumped out to an 8-0 lead and ended the first quarter with six straight points. Dexter held a 29-10 halftime lead and seemed to be in complete control of the contest. Avery Herrick scored 11 points in the first half.

Penquis came out in the second half and outscored the Tigers 13-2 in the first 2:20. The Patriots took the lead late in the quarter. The score was tied at 39 entering the final quarter. The Tigers scored the first six points of the fourth quarter and outscored the Patriots 14-7 in the final eight minutes.

Herrick led the Tigers with 12 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Danielle Cummings came off the bench to put in 11 points. Peyton Grant had nine points and five assists, Becca Batron scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds. Kaitlyn Webber recorded six points, three steals, and two blocks. Cheyenne Beem contributed four points and six steals, while Kaylee Deering chipped in with two points. Dexter (10-1) will travel to Schenck tomorrow night.

Sydney Fowles recorded 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Patriots. Camryn Rolfe added 12 points, three steals, and two assists. Megan Valvo also finished in double figures with 11 points. Katelyn Bolstridge, Kylee Trafton, and Lauren Bolstridge finished with four, two, and one points respectively. Penquis (6-7) will travel to Searsport tomorrow night.
