#9 Maine womens hockey swept at UConn

The #9 Maine Black Bears were swept Friday and Saturday at Stoors, Connecticut at the Edward Freitas Ice Forum in Hockey East womens ice hockey action against the Connecticut Huskies.

After a first period powerplay goal gave UConn a 1-0 first period lead Friday night, Michelle Weis scored late in the third period with just 1:05 left for Maine to send the game to overtime.

Briana Colangelo scored 1:20 into the extra session for the Huskies to end it. Carly Jackson made 45 saves in the Maine net, while Annie Belanger made 25 saves in the Connecticut win. Maine was 0-1 on the powerplay, while UConn was 1-3.

 

Saturday afternoon, UConn got two goals from Leah Lum, a goal and three assists from Morgan Wabick, three assists from Kyla Mee, and a goal and an assist from Natalie Snodgrass to cruise to a 4-0 win over Maine.

Jackson made 22 saves in the net in the Bears loss, while Belanger made 26 to pick up the shutout and help the Huskies to the sweep. Maine was 0-2 on the powerplay, UConn was 1-3.

The Huskies are now 9-11-8, 3-10-5 in Hockey East. The Black Bears fall to 16-9-3, 10-6-2.

Maine will host UNH Friday and Saturday. Both games are set for 2 p.m.
