Bouchard big second half lifts Houlton over Central

EAST CORINTH, Me- Kolleen Bouchard scored 19 points (17 in second half) and hauled down 10 rebounds Friday night, as the Houlton Shiretowners stay unbeaten with a Class C North girls basketball win by a score of 52-39 over Central at the Central High School gymnasium.

Houlton (16-0) started the game on a 7-0 run, but six first quarter points from Central guard Sydney Allen kept it close at 14-10 Shires at the end of first quarter.

Central got within 18-16 in the second quarter, before Houlton closed out the first half on a 6-2 surge to take a 24-18 halftime lead. Bouchard was held to just two first half points.

Red Devil sophomore guard Abigail Allen hit a three pointer with 5:30 left in the third quarter to get Central within 26-23. Once again though the Shires closed out a quarter strong, as their 11-3 run made it 37-26 Houlton after three.

Central (14-2), made one more run as they scored five straight points in the fourth to cut the lead to 44-37. Houlton closed the game on an 8-2 run to stay unbeaten. Bouchard had 10 points in the final stanza.

Houlton also got 10 points from Teagan Ewings, nine points from Tessa Solomon, eight points from Aspen Flewelling, and six points and nine rebounds from Kristen Graham.

S. Allen led Central with 18 points and seven rebounds. Emily Cohen added eight points and six rebounds. Red Devils also got five points from A. Allen, three points each from Rachael Smith and Alyse Campbell, and two points from Cassidy Burns.

Both teams return to action Monday as Central hosts Penquis at 5:30 p.m., and Houlton travels to Calais for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
