Central moves onto semifinals with win over Stearns

BANGOR, Me- Sydney Allen scored eight of her game high 12 points in the second half, as the Central Red Devils got by the Stearns Minutemen 40-33 in a girls Class C quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center Tuesday night.

Both teams came out slow, as no points were scored until Allen broke the ice with a free throw almost three minutes in. Central led early 5-0, and 7-6 after one quarter. The Red Devils led by as many as six in the second quarter, before Stearns forward Julia Stanley sank a three pointer just before the halftime buzzer to give the Minutemen a 19-18 lead at intermission.

Central scored the first eight points of the third, four by Abigail Allen to make it 26-19, and led 31-23 after three quarters. Central would open it up to an 11 point lead at 39-28 in the fourth, and hang on down the stretch.

Stearns, who finshes up at 16-4, was led by Peighton Ingersoll who had 10 points and five rebounds. Stanley finished with nine points, and Katherine Alley chipped in with eight.

Along with her game high in points, S. Allen had five rebounds and three assists for 18-2 Central. A. Allen and Rachael Smith had seven points a piece, while Emilee Cohen chipped in with six. Central will meet Houlton on Friday afternoon in the semifinals.
