BANGOR, Me- Sophomore Lauran Cook led all scorers with 22 points, to lead the #11 Calais Blue Devils to a 53-49 win over the #3 Narraguagus Knights in a Class C girls quarterfinal Tuesday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.
Narraguagus (18-2), led early and at the end of the first quarter 15-11. Cook came alive in the second quarter with her team down 18-16. Cook scored the final 12 points of the first half for the Blue Devils, as Calais held a 28-22 halftime lead.
Cook nailed a three pointer to open the third to make it 15 straight, and give Calais a nine point lead, the biggest to that point. The Devils led by as many as 10, while ‘Guagus cut the lead down to five in the fourth quarter and eventually to four as that was the final margin as time ran out on the Knights.
Narraguagus was led by Kylee Joyce who finished with 14 points. Kaci Alley added 11, while Madison Leighton had 10 all in the second half and Lanie Perry had nine.
Along with Cook Calais (15-5) got 10 points all in second half from Sophie McVicar, nine from Olivia Huckins, and seven from Prue Maxwell. Calais will face Dexter in a Friday afternoon semifinal.
