BANGOR- With the Dexter girls basketball team having three freshman in the starting lineup there may be a question on how they would react in their first game at the Cross Insurance Center on Tuesday morning.

The Lady Tigers made it very clear early on in their 52-13 Maine Principles’ Assocation class C quarterfinal victory over Fort Kent that jitters wasn’t going to be an issue.

“When the referee throws up the jump ball it is the same game as you have played all year long, just in a different place,”Dexter coach Jody Grant said. “Thankfully we got off to a decent start.”

The freshmen duo of Peyton Grant and Avery Herrick combined for 27 points in the first half as Dexter held a 35-5 halftime lead. Grant had four 3-pointers in the first half while Herrick pulled down 11 rebounds in the first 16 minutes.

“Bright lights, lots of fans. Definatley a lot of nerves,”Peyton Grant said. “Once you step on the court, it is just basketball, just got to play.”

Herrick added, “When you get on the court you just need to forget about it. Focus on you and your teammates and that is it.”

Grant finished with a game high 23 points and also added five steals and three assists. Herrick contributed 14 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Kaitlyn Webber and Abi Paige added four points each, while Addyson Herrick and Becca Batron put in three and two points respectively. Danielle Cummings recorded three assists, three steals, and three rebounds, while Kaylee Deering had four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Dexter (16-3) will take on Calais in a semifinal game at 2 PM on Friday. Calais defeated Narraguagus 53-49 earlier Tuesday morning. The Tigers know they will have to be ready for a quick Blue Devils team,

“They (Calais) are very athletic, a lot of good guards,”Coach Grant said. “We are going to have our hands full.”

Cassidy Lovely had seven points and five rebounds to lead the Warriors. Fort Kent finishes the season with a 13-7 record.
