Emily Wheaton earns second Charles Inn female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 250 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had 22 Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Emily Wheaton (Presque Isle) scored 71 points in her first two tournament games. Wheaton edged Kolleen Bouchard (Houlton), Camille Kohtal (Orono), and Emily Curtis (Woodland) to earn her second athlete of the week honor.

Emily Wheaton- Presque Isle basketball- recorded 36 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals in 58-53 overtime quarterfinal win over MCI. Had 35 points, four rebounds, and two steals in 55-52 semifinal win over Hermon.

Runner up

Kolleen Bouchard- Houlton – basketball- recorded 25 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks, and two steals in 65-26 quarterfinal win over PCHS. Had 21 points and 11 rebounds in 41-38 semifinal win over Central. Recorded 27 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two blocks in 33-30 overtime win over Dexter in regional final.

Other nominations

Camille Kohtal- Orono – track – the junior set the league record for long jump (18-02.25) at the PVC EMITL meet, putting her at the top of the state and possibly top long jumper in New England (not sure if all stats are updated from weekend). She is now ranked 50th in the nation in long jump for 2018 indoor according to MileSplit and now holds the record for third longest jump in the history of the state. Also on Saturday, she won the 800m race with a PR time of 2:26.22. She is ranked 4th in the state in the 400 which she will run next weekend at the State meet.

Sydney Allen- Central- basketball – recorded 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals in 46-23 class C prelim win over PVHS. Had 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 40-33 quarterfinal win over Stearns. Had 17 points in 41-38 semifinal loss to Houlton.

Erin Speed- PCHS- basketball- scored 22 points (11-12 FT) in 48-39 class C prelim win over Madawaska. Recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists in 65-26 quarterfinal loss to Houlton.

Kylee Joyce- Narraguagus- Basketball- had 16 points and nine rebounds in 55-36 class C prelim win over Penquis.

Samantha Falone- Schenck- Basketball- had 18 points and 10 rebounds in 53-42 class D prelim win over Easton.

Desirae Hafford- Fort Kent- basketball- had 21 points in 51-35 class C prelim win over Fort Fairfield.

Haley Ward- Winslow- basketball- recorded 13 points and five rebounds in 55-34 quarterfinal win over MDI. Had 20 points in 39-26 semifinal win over John Bapst.

Abbey Legasse- John Bapst- basketball- scored 16 points in 52-48 quarterfinal win over Waterville.

Gabrielle Wener- Messalonskee- basketball- scored 29 points, including 5 three pointers in 63-49 quarterfinal win over Medomak Valley.

Sydney Ames- Skowhegan- basketball- scored 21 points in 66-38 win over Nokomis.

Brooklyn Lambert- Lawrence- basketball- scored 18 points in quarterfinal win over Brewer.

Lauren Plissey- Hermon- basketball- had 17 points in 59-36 quarterfinal win over Caribou. Had 15 points in 55-52 semifinal loss to Presque Isle.

Emily Curtis- Woodland- basketball- recorded 16 points, 15 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks in 39-35 quarterfinal win over Schenck. Recorded 24 points, 17 rebounds, and six blocks in 54-45 semifinal win over Deer Isle-Stonington.

Natalie Rickards- Katahdin- Basketball- scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 23-21 quarterfinal win over Shead.

Kassidy Mathers- Southern Aroostook- Basketball- scored 16 points in 71-39 quarterfinal win over Jonesport-Beals. Recorded 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 73-41 semifinal win over Katahdin. Recorded six points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals, and five assists in 55-41 regional final win over Woodland.

Makaelyn Porter- Southern Aroostook- basketball- scored 16 points in 71-39 quarterfinal win over Jonesport-Beals. Recorded 16 points, three assists, and three steals in 73-41 semifinal win over Katahdin. Had 19 points in 55-41 regional final win over Woodland.

Kacy Daggett- Southern Aroostook- basketball- had 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in 71-39 quarterfinal win over Jonesport-Beals. Recorded 13 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in 55-41 regional final win over Woodland.

Lauren Cook- Calais- basketball- had 22 points in 53-49 quarterfinal win over Narraguagus.

Peyton Grant- Dexter- basketball- recorded 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 52-13 quarterfinal win over Fort Kent. Recorded 16 points and three assists in 36-15 semifinal win over Calais. Scored 22 points in 33-30 regional final loss to Houlton in overtime.

Avery Herrick- Dexter – basketball- scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in 52-13 quarterfinal win over Fort Kent. Had 14 points and 10 rebounds in 36-15 semifinal win over Calais.
