Draft outlook for UMaine baseball players

June 4, 2018

The Major League Baseball draft will start this evening. University of Maine junior shortstop jeremy Pena is highly regarded and expected to go somewhere between the fourth and seventh rounds. Black Bears catcher Christopher Bec could be in the mix and playing a position of need for many organizations will help.

Tommy John surgery put Justin Courtney’s plans for a professional career on hold. Courtney could still be drafted and has a bright future but all signs point to Courtney returning to Maine as a fifth year senior.

Nick Silva was at the Sunday night baseball game between the Astros and Red Sox. Silva’s uncle Alex Rodriguez was broadcasting the game for ESPN, while Silva spent the game sitting beside Jennifer Lopez. The junior has a fastball that jumps and that could get him a look.

Here is a full report on the University of Maine players and there possibility of getting picked. The draft begins at 6 PM on the Major League Baseball Network.
