Libby Hewes is named Charles Inn female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 259 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Libby Hewes allowed only two runs in 14 innings to lead Brewer softball to regional and state championship victories. Hewes joins Kyle Alexander (12-18-11), Matt Pushard (6-15-15), Logan Rogerson (10-11-15), Trey Wood (9-25-16), and Kobe Rogerson (4-23-18) as student/athletes from Brewer high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.

Libby Hewes- Brewer – softball- allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out three and not walking anyone in a 6-2 class B regional final win over Oceanside. Allowed four hits and one walk, while striking out six in complete game shutout in 1-0 win over Greely in class B state championship game.

Runner up

Leine McKechnie- PVHS- softball- struck out 21 batters while allowing only three hits, one walk, and two runs plus hit a three run homer in a five run 10th inning in a 7-2 win over Southern Aroostook in a class D regional final game. Allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and five walks plus 12 strikeouts in 4-3 loss to Greenville in class D state championship game.

Other nominations

Kathryn Austin- Brewer- softball- reached base three times, including hitting a two run double in 6-2 class B regional final win over Oceanside.

Kortney McKechnie- PVHS- softball- had three hits and the go ahead RBI in 7-2 class D regional final win over Southern Aroostook. Had a RBI double and three intentional walks in 4-3 class D state championship loss to Greenville.

Lanie Perry- Narraguagus- softball- allowed six hits and struck out eight in 4-2 win over Bucksport in class C regional final.

Halle Pelletier- Greenville – softball- allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and nine walks plus nine strikeouts in 4-3 class D state championship win over PVHS.
