Evan Merchant earns Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 269 past athlete of the week winners. 

This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Evan Merchant because the first three peat Downeasr Conference Cross Country champion. Merchant edged out Riley Geyer (Cony) and Marcus Christopher (Skowhegan) to join Morgan Merchant (2) (1-27-13), Garet Beal (4) (2-13-13), Cole Beal (12-15-13), and
Kaiden Crowley (5-13-18) as student/athletes from Jonesport-Beals to earn athlete of the week of the honors.

Roadrunner Taxi male athlete of the week

Evan Merchant- Jonesport-Beals- Cross Country- the senior won his third consecutive conference championship. Merchant is the first one to do that in the Downeast conference. He tied his own course record of 17:11 for the 3.1 mile distance.

Riley Geyer- Cony- football- threw for 215 yards and five touchdowns on 15-18 passing in 55-6 win over Hampden.

Other nominations

Marcus Christopher- Skowhegan- football- threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another in 36-24 win over Brewer.

Dustin Dyer- Cony- football- had three touchdowns in 55-6 win over Hampden.

Austin Plourde- Fort Kent- soccer- had two goals and one assist in 4-3 win over Houlton.

Cassidy Pound- Mt. View- soccer- had three goals and one assist in 7-0 win over Belfast.

Dustin Dyer- Cony- football- had three touchdowns in 55-6 win over Hampden.
