Girls Soccer- 10/15/18- PVHS 3 Schenck 2- overtime

At Howland the Howlers took on the Schenck Worlverines in their last regular season match. The conditions were nothing short of miserable as the rain fell and the field turn to an instant mud bowl.

After honoring the four PVHS seniors for senior night, the first half started and finished with a 0-0 score. PVHS had the shot advantage for the half, 6-1. 12 minutes into the 2nd half, Lexi Ireland received a pass from Lauren Reed, and put the ball in the back of the net. Schenck’s Laura Cote would tie the game for ten minutes later. Ireland gave the Howlers another lead with nine minutes to play when she followed a goal keeper bobble and kicked it home. Cote would again tie the game with a goal for Schenck just 40 seconds later. After 80 minutes of play, the game was 2-2 and heading into a very dark overtime.

Just three minutes into the first overtime session, Leine McKechnie scored the golden goal to improve PVHS to 13-0-1 on the year. Howler keeper Emilee Ireland had 1 save on 3 shots. Schenck goalie Katrina Gagnon finished with 16 saves on 20 shots. Field conditions definitely played a huge factor in this game for both teams. The Howlers will finish as the number three seed in the Maine Principals’ Association class D tournament. They will host a quarterfinal game next week. Schenck (4-7-2) will go on the road for a preliminary round game this weekend.
