Riitano and Kendall power PCHS girls to win over Valley

GUILFORD- Olivia Riitano scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lift the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates to a 36-28 win over Valley on Thursday afternoon.

The Pirates held Valley to four first half points as they held a 13 point halftime lead. The Cavaliers outscored PCHS 14-12 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 29-18 heading into the final quarter.

Emily Collins made two free throws with 1:28 remaining to cut the deficit to 33-26. Mackenzie Kain converted one of two free throws with 117 remaining to get the Pirates lead back to eight (34-26). Jillian Miller made a layup to get the deficit to 34-28 with 1:03 remaining.

Haylee Hartford got a steal with 46 seconds remaining, Riitano followed that up with a layup on a pass from Elizabeth Kendall to secure the victory.

Kendra Sweet led the Cavaliers with nine points, 11 rebounds, and eight steals. Emily Collins added six points, while Kennedy Savoy recorded four points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Valley (6-4) will travel to Forest Hills on Saturday.

PCHS out rebounded Valley 30-29. The Pirates shot 8-22 from the free throw line, while the Cavaliers shot 8-16.

Kendall recorded 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the Pirates. Hope Adkins added six points, 10 steals, and four rebounds. PCHS (2-8) will travel to Penquis on Tuesday, January 15th.
