Sydney Ames earns Charles Inn female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 288 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had eight Rowell’s Garage athlete of the week nominations. Sydney Ames didn’t allow a run and only allowed four hits in the first two games for Skowhegan. She also had four hits with the bats in the season opener. Ames joins Adam Dusty (10-20-11), Marcus Christopher (10-8-17), Ashley Alward (4-23-18), Alexis Michonsk (9-16-18), Adelle Foss (10-7-18), and Annie Cook (12-23-18) as student/athletes from Skowhegan high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.

Charles Inn female athlete of the week

  • Sydney Ames- Skowhegan- softball- threw a perfect game with 13 strikeouts and went 4-5 with the bat in 26-0 win over Mt. Ararat. Threw a four hitter and struck out 10 in 10-0 win over Lewiston.

Runner up

  • Mikayla Tripp- Bucksport- softball- got the win in the circle with 18 strikeouts and also hit a home run in 8-1 win over MDI.

Other nominations

  • Chloe Jones- Oceanside – softball- pitched a one hitter with 14 strikeouts in 2-0 win over Maranacook. Pitched a two hitter and struck out 15 in 4-0 win over Erskine. 
  • MacKenzie Dore- Brewer – softball- went 3-5 with five RBI, including a three run homer in the 8th inning in 13-7 extra inning win over Gardiner.
  • Paige Trask- Winslow- softball- went 4-4 with four RBI and pitched a five hitter with 10 strikeouts in 8-6 win over Waterville. 
  • Mariah Whittemore- Skowhegan- softball- hit two homers and had seven RBI in 26-0 win over Mt. Ararat. 
  • Sydney Reed – Skowhegan- softball- had four hits, including a double and triple in 26-0 win over Mt. Ararat. 
  • Jaycie Christopher- Skowhegan – softball- the freshman hit two doubles and a homer in 26-0 season opening win over Mt. Ararat.
