Mikayla Tripp earns Charles Inn female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 293 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had four Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations.  Mikayla Tripp only allowed a total of three hits and struck out 41 in 15 innings to lead Bucksport to three wins during the week. Tripp joins Mike Cummings (5-13-12), Kacie Hurd (9-16-12), Cassidy Adams – (2)- (5-19-13), Carter DeRedin- (5-23-15), Samantha Goode- (6-21-15), Riley MacLeod (12-26-15), Kate Saunders (4-30-17), Matt Vincent (4-30-17), Chase Carmichael (10-15-17), Carter Tolmasoff (2) (11-12-18), and Tanner Stegner (5-28-18) as student/athletes from Bucksport high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.

The Charles Inn female athlete of the week

  • Mikayla Tripp- Bucksport- Softball- pitched a no hitter with 10 strikeouts and had three hits, including a homer in 16-0 win over Searsport. Pitched a one hitter with 18 strikeouts and went 2-3 at the plate, including a triple in 9-0 win over Mattanawcook. Pitched a two hitter with 13 strikeouts and went 3-4 with a triple and six RBI in 17-4 win over Orono. 

Runner up

  • Leine McKechnie- PVHS- Softball- pitched a three hitter with 14 strikeouts plus hit a double and walked twice in 9-5 win over Deer Isle-Stonington. Pitched a one hitter with 14 strikeouts plus had four hits, including a double, triple, and four RBI in 10-0 win over PCHS. Had five inning one hitter with 10 strikeouts and walked three times at the plate in 13-0 win over Penquis.

Other nominations

  • Makenzie Beaudry- Foxcroft – Softball- pitched a three hitter and hit a two run homer and scored four runs in 11-2 win over Dexter. Struck out 13 and had three hits in 13-11 win over Caribou. Had two hits, including a home run and struck out 10 in 14-2 win over Caribou.
  • Cailin Seavey- Foxcroft – Softball- had three hits in 11-2 win over Dexter.
