Helen Shearer earns Charles Inn female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 296 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had three Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. For the second straight year, Helen Shearer finished first in the 800′, 1600m, and 3200m at the PVC large school league meet. Shearer joins Zach Gilpin- (2-9-14), Brandon McIntyre (3-2-15), and Tommy Farrar (9-13-15) as student/athletes from Hampden Academy that have earned athlete of the week honors.

The Charles Inn female athlete of the week

  • Helen Shearer- Hampden- Track and field – for the second year in a row she finished first in the 800′, 1600m, and 3200m at the PVC large school league meet.

Runner up

  • Kaelyn Parks – Central – Softball- pitched a three hitter with nine strikeouts in 15-1 win over Penquis. Pitched a six hitter with 10 strikeouts in the circle plus had two hits with a triple and two RBI in 7-6 win over Orono.

Other nominations

  • Leine McKechnie- PVHS – Softball- pitched a one hitter with 13 strikeouts, four walks and one earned run in 3-2 win over Schenck.
