Dexter starts quick in win over Madison in football season opener

DEXTER- A lot of teams take a while to get into a groove. The Dexter Tigers football team isn’t one of those teams. The Tigers scored two first quarter touchdowns and added another in the second quarter to take a commanding 21-0 halftime lead and cruised to a convincing 37-10 win over Madison on Saturday afternoon.

Cameron Paige led a rushing attack that featured four players with at least 54 yards. Paige had 98 yards on 13 carries. Parker Ponte has 55 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown, Logan Perkins had 54 rushing yards and a touchdown, the quarterback also threw one. Gage Stone rushed for 55 yards and also kicked a 36 yard field goal.

Tyler Chapman capped off the scoring with a 70 yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter. Nathan Schobal added 38 yards and a rushing touchdown for the Tigers. The Dexter defense also came up big allowing only 53 yards from scrimmage, all coming late in the fourth quarter with the first team on the sidelines. Robbie Dorman recovered a fumble while Avery Gagnon had an interception at the one yard line. Dexter had 268 yards from scrimmage. Dexter (1-0) will travel to Bucksport next Friday night.

Madison got a safety when the Tigers fumbled the ball into the end zone in the third quarter. The Bulldogs touchdown came when Bryce Willette threw a touchdown pass to Thomas Dean in the fourth quarter. Madison (0-1) will host Lisbon next Saturday.
